Meet the Markers of the 2023 HSC Science Examinations

STANSW's annual Meet the Markers event serves as a crucial professional development opportunity for science teachers. Tailored for those who haven't participated in Higher School Certificate examinations marking, the event deepens their understanding of the marking and judging processes. Attendees, including early career teachers entering senior classes and pre-service teachers, find it highly valuable gaining insights and strategies to better prepare students for the exams that lie ahead.

In 2024, we're changing things up by reintroducing a face-to-face collaborative conference day, while keeping our exam analysis sessions accessible online.

Location: Exam Analysis: Online, Full day conference: OLMC Parramatta


Online Exam Analysis Sessions: 4.00pm - 6.30pm
These extended 2.5-hour sessions will provide in-depth analysis of the most recent HSC Science exams. Participants will have the opportunity to gain insights and feedback into exam expectations and marking guidelines.

• Wed 13 March - Biology Exam Analysis
• Thu 14 March - Investigating Science Exam Analysis
• Mon 18 March - Chemistry Exam Analysis
• Tue 19 March - Science Extension Exam Analysis
• Wed 20 March- Physics Exam Analysis
• Thu 21 March - Earth and Environmental Science Exam Analysis

NESA Accreditation: Completing Meet the Markers Exam Analysis (per subject) will contribute 2 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and Assessment of NSW Curriculum addressing standard descriptor 5.4.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

Full Day In-Person Conference: Friday 22nd March, 9.00am - 4.00pm
Theme of the day: Enhancing NSW Science Teachers' Understanding of HSC Science Exam Expectations
Venue: OLMC Parramatta

This additional in-person day will compliment the earlier online sessions and will offer a wealth of resources and strategies to help teachers prepare their students for exam success.

NESA Accreditation: Completing Meet the Markers Enhancing Understanding of HSC Science Exam Expectations will contribute 4 hours and 30 minutes of NSW Education Standards Authority  (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing Standard Descriptor 5.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher in NSW.
