NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Teacher Shortages Report

Like many others in the education space, STANSW made a submission and gave evidence at the recent NSW Parliamentary Inquiry into Teacher Shortages. We had hoped that the Inquiry would bring attention to the important work of science teachers and the significant barriers teachers face in NSW.

The report from the Inquiry has now been released. Unfortunately, STASW does not believe that the language and recommendations in the report reflect the reality of the issues facing teachers today, or key themes that came across from the numerous submissions made to the Inquiry. Conversely, we believe the report contains some recommendations contrary to the evidence presented to the Inquiry committee.

STANSW thanks all of the teachers and members who took the time to contribute to our submission. We will continue to advocate for the profession of science teachers and for excellence in science education across NSW and Australia.

A summary of the findings we presented in our submission can be found in an article published in the Conversation here.
