Age Sections & Criteria

There are four age sections in the STANSW Young Scientist Awards:

• Years K-2 
• Years 3-6
• Years 7-9
• Years 10-12

Students entering in the Years 7-9 and 10-12  age sections will choose one of the following categories:

• Chemistry
• Biology
• Physics
• Earth & Environmental Science

The judges have written sets of criteria for each age section to explain what they will be looking for.

They will use scoring rubrics when they assess entries

Read the criteria before you start an investigation, and also at the end as a checklist to ensure you have included everything. Ask your science teacher or parents for help if you do not understand what is required. The best entry will be one that meets the criteria at the highest level.
